Lillian Fuchs was considered to be among the finest violists of her time, known for an excellent tone combined with expert musicianship and technique. She studied with Franz Kneisel and went on to enjoy a teaching career at the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. She composed several books of etudes for the viola, which have become staples in today’s universities and music schools, including the Sixteen Fantasy Etudes for Viola Solo.
